The Project BROTWEG: New Technologies for the High Mountain Grain Processing Chain

The project BROTWEG (FESR1089) aims to develop radical and incremental innovations for cereal cultivation in extreme mountain areas (<1500 m) on fields characterised by very steep soils (70%).

In these terrains, cereal cultivation is nowadays excluded from any form of mechanisation, leading to the abandonment of these areas due to the very high labour requirements.

The project supports new development models for mountain agriculture that complement the currently prevailing livestock models. In this context, the farm-bakery supply chain (cereal-flour-bread) comes to the fore instead of the farm-cheese supply chain (hay-milk-cheese).
